Social Value and Skills
Project FAWKES will deliver social value by restoring a nationally important research capability while
creating practical local and national benefits during development and operation. The project will adopt
an active programme of community and stakeholder engagement centred on transparent communication,
educational outreach and long‑term collaboration with local schools, colleges, universities and community
partners.
Planned activities include:
- Facility talks and careers events
- Student visits and placements where appropriate
- Engagement with local authorities and community representatives
- Support to apprenticeships and graduate schemes
The project will help grow a sustainable UK skills pipeline in criticality science, nuclear safety,
radiological protection, experimental engineering and remote operations, with recruitment based on fair,
inclusive and open access principles.
